When Sam becomes a hero, he either picks the named "Redbird" out of respect for past aliases of his friends, or "Swift" to have a more unique outfit. He's still more influenced by Nightwing than his brother, Joseph; but is more often at his brother's side than at his mentor's.
If the case is he becomes Swift as a kid, his costume as a kid remains relatively unchained, with perhaps blue replacing the red.
As a teenager, Sam is officially Swift. He choose an outfit that's more like a cross between Ninja Gaiden and Bat-family armor. While most of his arms are bare, he does use reinforced gauntlets. There is a hood attached to the armor for stealth, as well as a scarf with a split end, like a swift's tale. He often brings it up to cover his mouth for stealth, but normally wears it "because it looks cool". He also wears a domino mask. The armor itself is light yet extremely durable, and is molded to Sam's body. As a growing boy, though, Sam needs to make a new set every so often and will usually tinker with things like HUD, hacking ability in the gauntlets, grapnel in the gauntlets etc. A jetpack is built inside the back of the torso armor for flight; though Sam prefers to use parkour or a bike to get around.
Sam, as a teen, is not afraid to use his powers in battle. Thus he has created his own fighting style combining his powers with fast and powerful attacks to quickly defeat opponents. Along with martial arts and gadgets, Sam does have a couple weapons. His main weapons, influenced by Nightwing, are eskrima sticks that can form into a staff. His secondary melee weapon is a katana, a gift from his biological father. While Sam detests Slade, he uses the sword to bring justice and vows to never take a life with it. Sam uses modified batarangs and birdarangs that act more like shiruken. He's adapted the various gadgets, etc, to his own use.
In fact, Sam is very influenced by ninja for his tactics, gear, etc as a teen. He might even possibly train in Japan for a summer with a ninja clan.
Sam likes to keep himself in top shape and is constantly pushing himself to get better. Of course, this has led to some female attention, which he doesn't mind. Compared to how he was as a kid, Sam is bolder, brasher, more confident, more headstrong, etc. He will fight to defend his friends, etc. He's still a hardworking student, but he also wants to join one of the sports teams. In the meantime, he probably joins a few clubs to have at least some sort of a social life.
Sam's metahuman abilities as a teen are not as powerful as his brother's, but he is catching up rapidly. When he pushes himself, he is far more powerful, but he can also severely hurt himself. It raises a few questions for the Bat-Family as well as his own; what changes did Slade make to the formula when he used it on Sam?
