So, there has been an idea brewing in my head for a while now, and a friend in an FB group has helped crystalize that thought.

What if Joseph, for his intro arc, had a different nom de guerre: Vigilante

Now, unlike Ronin, this won't get me into trouble as DC already has two heroes of that name.

The first was this guy:

Obviously, this is not the route we're going.

We're going more in the direction of the 80s vigilante

dc.wikia.com/wiki/Adrian_Chase…

Vigilante (Adrian Allen Chase)

GEAR:

Joseph will have a more armored version of the 80s uniform with some more high tech items. First of all, he will have a computerized HUD and a link to his own computer in his base, there is also USBs etc for hacking in the gloves. Secondly, his boots can also serve as jump jets for short distances. His equipment is contained in a utility belt, and his club is in a holster attached to his hip. His throwing knives are stored in a special bandolier. There is strength enhancing tech in the armor, but only to negate the weight enough to move and fight easily. Also, his helmet/goggles would look more like Gangbuster's:

Gangbuster (José Delgado)

He also has several non lethal "guns", which mostly shoot stun rays, listening devices, etc. He retains the typical crimefighter gear, as well as his "jitterbugs". The armor is also designed to make Joseph look bigger and taller.

ALLIANCES WITH THE LAW:

For this intro arc revision, Vigilante works with the Brooklyn DA, Adrian Chase, to bring down various gangs etc (Adrian Chase was the Vigilante in the 80s-90s, there is a point to this)

STORY CHANGES:

We're going to go by my Grayson aftermath ideas.  Either sticking to them fully or adjusted, Dick comes to New York and is hired by Joseph to be the bodyguard for his little brother. If Dick is Nightwing at this point, he will run into the Vigilante on patrol; if not, hearing about the Vigilante (or having encountered him somehow) peaks his interest and he gets back into being Nightwing. This starts a usually friendly rivalry between Nightwing and Vigilante, though there are moments (such as Nightwing mistakenly thinking Vigilante was going to snipe a target, only to find out it was to plant a "bug" on the window and they get caught) where the two are at loggerheads. Nightwing also attempts to help improve Vigilante's methods, something that angers the latter crimefighter. Sam, of course, is aware of his brother's activities, and Dick becomes suspicious of Joseph, though he thinks DA Chase is another possibility.

Eventually, the gangs, mafia etc of NYC panic and call in a consultant: Hush. Hush frees the Arkhamites, knowing that it will distract Batman and Co, allowing him to slip into Gotham and cause some chaos. Taking on an Arkhamite (Two-Face is likely) at the same time, Nightwing and Vigilante end up fighting each other and unmasking each other. They then team up to track down Two-Face and take him down. However, when Batman arrives, he quickly refuses Vigilante's help, drawing Joseph's ire. An attempt to prove Batman wrong goes awry, leading to a rebuke from Batman. Vigilante loses his temper and attacks Batman, only for his metahuman abilities to activate for the first time. Batman does beat Vigilante, but that's in part the strain of the powers first being used overloads Vigilante's system. Batman helps Joseph recover, but still refuses his aid (though he's not above using his base as his own for the trip). Joseph refuses to aid Batman any further unless he gets in on the action; something he proves useful in when Poison Ivy attacks a benefit he attends held at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. He also proves useful in tracking down mysterious "losses" in WayneTech profits. This comes to a head when Hush gets desperate (as the Arkhamites are eventually caught (Joker with some aid from Harley) and his dirty deeds are uncovered) and kidnaps Sam. Joseph helps save Sam, and is later offered a job at WayneTech, with the proviso he works as Batman's info gatherer to earn real training

CONSEQUENCES:

Joseph's leaving NYC for Gotham meant that Adrian Chase loses an ally, refusing even Nightwing's aid as a replacement. He becomes more and more driven to take down the gangs, leading to his family being killed, and him seemingly along with them. Instead, he changes his identity, and escapes to Asia to train for vengeance. Returning to NYC, he takes Joseph's old mantle as the Vigilante. Unlike Joseph's non lethal tactics (influenced by those he looked up to), Chase is definitely lethal. (This is a quasi retelling of how Chase became the Vigilante). Joseph, even if he hasn't earned training, has to help stop Chase's bloody crusade.

Well, that's a rough new idea for Joseph's intro into the DCU; even managed to roughly adjust the intro arc
So a couple friends have put an idea into my head, and this is the result :)

An alternate take on Joseph's NYC patrol days, as well as giving him a tie to the DC mythos.

Plus it simplifies Hush's plot :)

Joseph Kane and Sam Kane belong to me
Nightwing, Batman, etc belong to DC Comics

Another good idea, and one I would definitely subscribe to. It also works in the outcome that Damian doesn't come back, not a pleasing factor but realism is the name of the game. As for the vigilante story that's quite a stroke of genius, incorporating old ideas into something new and to bring in more tension and drama.

It's good you've also kept elements of your original idea as well which is good to see, whilst also amending it to make it work with the new elements. Hush is always one of my favourite villains because of the personal factor so it's gonna be cool to see him in action.

So all in all good idea, nice amendment and I look forward to seeing it put to action.
