The Tears of A Clown, When Mr. J Is Not AroundNightwing and Robin chased after the ice cream truck on their bikes.

">TT< Why did she steal an ice cream truck?!" said Robin sullenly as they followed the truck.

"Well, given her present relationship issues, and the fact she is stealing ice cream, I think she wants to eat it while watching reruns of The Golden Girls" quipped Nightwing with a grin.

The doors in the back of the ice cream truck opened. There stood Harley Quinn, tears ruining her makeup as she and one of her goons held cartons of frozen treats.

Early Days: A Friend IndeedA small group was in Wayne Manor's extensive gym complex, observing the two youngest residents of the manor. A couple days before, Damian Wayne attacked Sam Kane, who with his older brother Joseph just moved into the manor due to a series of events in New York City. Damian wasn't very kind to Sam when he was a guest in the Kane Brothers' house; and he wasn't much better when Sam moved in. So when he injured Sam in an attempt to "exert dominance" (his father's reasoning), Bruce Wayne revealed that he let Joseph bring Sam with him in part so Damian could have a friend. To create a bond, Bruce decided Damian would train Sam to build their friend

Intro Arc: Blue and BlackBatman, Robin, and Nightwing are looking around Joseph's bunker as an increasingly angry Joseph (still in his Ronin gear, without his mask, coat and hat) watches. Sam is helping Barkley down the stairs.

Joseph: Can you please not touch anything? Robin, keep your hands off my knives! Bruce, please don't root through my journals....

Nightwing: Bruce, maybe we should do as he asks....

Batman: May I remind you he is still a suspect?

Robin: These knives are...decent.

Sam: You okay there, Barkley?

Barkley whimpers in reply.

Robin: Your dog is a wuss, Kane!

Sam: He has more dignity than you, Bird Brat!

The two boys glare at each other. Bark

Present for K-S: Holiday Family ChaosJoseph and Sam Kane walked through the snow back to their mansion from the Wayne Foundation Christmas party. Huddled in Joseph's arms was his infant son, David Alexander, whose conception and birth was a surprise to Joseph. David's mother was, to Joseph's knowledge, a servant girl of Ra's Al Ghul who he had sex with during his time under Deathstroke's and Ra's' control; she had died giving birth to the boy...at least, that's what Joseph was told.

"Good party, huh Joey?" asked Sam, who was Joseph's little brother had recently become Joseph's crimefighting partner.

"Yep," said Joseph, hoisting a bag of presents for the trio.

A Robins Christmas Carol"Come on, Damian, it will be fun!" said Sam Kane. He was dressed in Victorian costume as a boy of the lower middle class, his blond hair covered with a cap, a mock crutch twirling in his hand (a trick he learned from Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing), and his blue eyes sparkled with Christmas spirit. He and Damian were looking out the window of Wayne Manor's living room at the snow. The room, and the entire mansion, had been decked out for Christmas.

Damian Wayne's blue eyes were as cold as ice. "So? I'm not going to help the poor! It's their fault they are poor!"

"No it's not! You refuse to look at the...."

Due to Damian being sidelined, Sam Kane takes his friend's place as Robin, at least for a little while.

My thanks to my usual collaborator

Sam's costume is designed to have pieces from several of his "predecessors" as Robin; their New 52 outfits to be more precise. He is wearing Dick's tunic, Jason's gloves, Tim's boots and belt (he leaves Damian's stuff alone out of respect). A small slap-dash outfit resized for him by Alfred for such an emergency.

Who knows, I might write an alternate timeline where Damian becomes Redbird and appoints Sam as his successor. Sam as Robin proved to be one of my more popular tales.
